New York can be classified as the most cosmopolitan city on Earth. The city is full of life and

vigor. The city is home to 8.5 million people. There is so much to see and do that a normal 4-5

day visit is certainly not enough to discover the city. The city is home to thousands of

restaurants, hundreds of museums, attractions, plays and quirky things to do. However, I am

trying to give a highlight of major attractions that you can see and enjoy in your short trip to

New York.

Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island

You have to take a ferry from Battery Park to reach the venue. The statue of Liberty is

spectacular to see up close. You can also visit the Ellis Island, where you can learn about the

immigrant experience and know about people who helped build New York City. You will be

definitely be impressed by the great sense of history. If the line for ferry at Battery park is too

long you can take the free Staten Island ferry for photos of the statue and the harbor.

Times Square

Times Square is always packed with people. There are pedestrian areas where you can sit and

hang around. There are plenty of restaurants, shopping areas and shows. It is fabulous place to

watch for a few minutes from the top of the red steps of TKTS Kiosk. Visit Times square in the

evening and you can see the place in its entire splendor. It is a complete different experience that

can’t be put in words. Times Square is a no miss if you happen to be in New York.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge is 25 minutes’ walk from City Hall. The bridge opens up to Brooklyn and

waterfront on the other side. Stopping to take photos and meandering along the way will make a

memorable walk of about 40 odd minutes. You can get a wonderful view of the downtown as

you make your way across the park. You can enjoy doing this at night, when the Manhattan is lit

up. This is a view that is like a real dream in front of your eyes. If you miss this sight while in

New York, you will repent.

Empire State Building

This is a 102 – story skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. This building is 1454 feet tall including

its antenna. This building is an American Cultural Icon and has hosted more than 250 TV Shows

and films. The interior is beautiful and the view from top is breathtaking. You can a get real feel

for how densely populated New York is as you stare from the top. As of July 2018, Empire State

Building is the fourth tallest building in New York. It is definitely a point of attraction for

travellers since its inception.

City Hall

This place is a great piece of Architecture and has a beautiful little park. It is the seat of New

York City Government. It was built by the Dutch in the 17 th century. It is a national historic

landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is definitely a tourist

attraction and may be classified as a must see for first timers to New York. It has a rich history

and is proud site in the entire New York.

Trinity Church

This is one of the oldest church in America. Though the original building was gutted in a fire in

1776, the present building is quite beautiful with an ornate gothic architecture. The church is

famous for its colonial graveyard, where you can find many famous Americans, including

Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. The Church is located near the

intersection of Wall Street and Broadway in Lower Manhattan in New York. The Church has a

history of over 300 years and is an important tourist destination. The Church has around 23 bells

and doors made of Bronze. This is certainly worth a visit.

Wall Street

Wall Street is an eight block long street running North West to south west from Broadway to

South Street, at the east river, in the financial district of Lower Manhattan in New York City.

Anchored by the Wall Street, New York city has been called the most economically powerful

city and the leading financial center of the world. This is certainly a major tourist attraction in

New York, as curious tourists flock here to see the place that controls all other share bodies in

the world.

Federal Hall

One of the most interesting destinations in New York, this sits across the street from the NY

Stock exchange. Federal hall was built in 1700, is the place from where George Washington took

oath of his office. The bible he was sworn in on has been kept very carefully ever since. It was

the first Capitol building in the US and also customs house during late 1700s. It is an interesting

place for visiting.

World Trade Center & 9/11 Memorial and Museum

The recently opened “Freedom Tower” gibes a very panoramic view of the city, and there are a

lot of information about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There is a museum in the park at the bottom of

the tower commemorating the victims of the attack along with an extensive museum. The

museum contains moving exhibits about the significance of 9/11 attacks.

Battery Park

It is named Battery Park for the old batteries (canons) that once defended the city. You can stop

here for music and street performers, people-watching, relaxing and such other activities. You

can explore the ruins of the old fort that kept watch over the New York City. The park is large

and full of life and vigor. You can get tremendous views of the harbor.
